Project Overview

Course: Google UX Design Certificate

Project Type: Solo Project

My Role: UX Researcher - UX/UI Designer

Timeline: January - May 2025

artevent

Artevent is a mobile app designed to help users discover local art events, exhibitions, and workshops based on their interests and location. I created this project as part of the Google UX Design Certificate, following the design thinking process to develop a user-centred design.

Problem:

There wasn’t a simple way to find art events, galleries, or exhibitions in one place.
Based on the prompts provided in the course, I started by planning to design an app for a public art museum. However, during my research, there was no dedicated platform just for art events. That gap became the problem I decided to focus on.

                  Solution
Explore art events based on interests and location.

             Location

• Users can explore events based on their city and postal code.

• Reduces time spent searching by showing only location-specific results.

• Helps users support local artists and stay connected to their community.

             Interest

• Helps users explore specific types of art based on their interest.

• Delivers a personalized browsing experience.

• Saves time by presenting only the most relevant

Design Thinking Process

Empathize Phase

I conducted interviews with three of my friends, who each had different levels of interest in art. After gathering information, I created empathy maps to know what each participant does, thinks, feels, and says. Based on the findings, I created three user personas and wrote a user story for each one to better understand their goals.

Define Phase

Hypothesis Statement

I believe that by creating a dedicated and user-friendly app for art-related events, I can help users feel more connected to their art community and reduce the time spent searching across multiple platforms.

Ideate Phase

Goal Statement

The goal is to design a mobile app for artists and art enthusiasts that allows them to discover and explore art events based on their interests and location, to make it easier to stay informed, inspired, and connected to their art community.

How Might We

    •    How might we make it easier and fun for users to discover local art events?
    •    How might we help users find events that match their interests?
    •    How might we keep users informed without overwhelming them?

Prototype Phase

low-fidelity wireframes

I started the prototyping phase by creating low-fidelity wireframes for each screen needed to complete the full user journey. This included flows for users who already have an account, users who want to sign up, and the steps for booking or cancelling an event. I also designed supporting screens such as search, location, and filter functions. These wireframes helped me map out the structure before moving on to visual design.

Testing Phase

Usability Study

After creating the low-fidelity prototype, I conducted a usability study with three of my friends to observe how they interacted with the app and to gather feedback. I collected their comments and organized them into an affinity diagram using FigJam. This helped me group related observations and find common patterns.

Affinity Mapping

• Users wanted the location to be visible to confirm the location of the events.
• Users expected the profile button to be in the bottom navigation bar, as most apps.
• Users preferred having more ways to interact, such as filters and saved buttons.

Final Design Process

Moodboard

I created a mood board to define the look and feel of the app. I wanted Artevent to feel bold, fun, and different, showing the creative and vibrant nature of the art community.
Based on these adjectives, I chose a colour palette combining bluish purple, grey, and white.

High-Fidelity Prototype

After applying the feedback from the usability study, I created a high-fidelity prototype. The updated design aims to provide a personalized experience for users exploring local art events.

The app includes complete user flows for logging into an existing account, creating a new account, and booking an even from selecting an event to completing the payment. Below are the mockups that show the booking process step by step, including event selection, confirmation, and payment.
